“Yesterday I went to the docent guided tour and enjoyed the fine artwork and the docent’s stories about each one. Thank you for enabling me to enjoy such a great cultural experience!” – Steve B

Engagement with art can have significant benefits for people with dementia and their care partners. Through discussion, individuals with Alzheimer’s can be experts in their own opinion around art, experience cognitive stimulation, access pleasant memories and socialize in an accepting environment.

In partnership with local museums throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, the Alzheimer’s Association, Northern California and Northern Nevada chapter offers free interactive museum tours to individuals with early stage dementia and their friends or care partners. Guided by trained docents, the tours are designed for early stage participants to experience and discuss art together in small group settings.

Tours are available bi-weekly, monthly and bi-monthly. Visit our Early Stage Events Calendar to find an upcoming tour at the de Young Museum, Legion of Honor Museum, Oakland Museum of California, Cantor Arts Center or Anderson Collection at Stanford. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited; reserve by contacting Lan Trinh at 800.272.3900 or  ltrinh@alz.org.
